Department Overview

The Public Works Department is responsible for the physical development, operation, and maintenance of the Town. The Department is comprised of three divisions: Buildings & Grounds Division, Maintenance Division (streets, drainage), Inspections Division (building,  plumbing, mechanical, electrical inspections), Planning & Zoning Division and Sanitation Division (privatized operation of convenience site).

Department Duties


The Building & Grounds Division has the following primary duties:

  • Maintenance and repair of Town facilities and physical plant.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of Town facility landscaped areas.

The Maintenance Division has the following primary duties:

  •  Streets: roadway maintenance, roadside environmental (grass cutting, plantings, etc), traffic signs and markings
  • Drainage: maintenance of drainage ways, drainage environmental (grass/weed cutting)

 The Inspections Division has the following primary duties:

  • Building Inspections (building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical) 

The Planning & Zoning Division has the following primary duties:

  • Unified Development Ordinance regulations for physical development: zoning, stormwater, site plan review 

The Sanitation Division has the following primary duties:

  • Operation and maintenance of solid waste convenience site

The Project Management Office has the following primary duties:

  • Serve as the coordinative office for special projects
  • Handles public contracting/bidding of projects
  • Provides onsite monitoring and inspection of projects being delivered in the field
  • Handles third-party contracts related to FEMA debris removal and permanent repair
